Program Overview

Psychology

Delve into fascinating questions of human thought, emotion, and behavior. How do the brain and the mind interact? How do social and cultural forces shape us? How do we change from birth to death? How can we use psychology to help people overcome challenges in their lives, workplaces, and communities? Gain the expertise of the psychologist through courses, internships, and faculty-led research. A course in psychology equips the students with an in-depth knowledge in various aspects like child psychology, industrial psychology, counseling psychology, personality development etc. In addition to the theory papers the students have practical papers every year which will give them practical insight into the subjects. Our graduates are well prepared for advanced study and exciting careers.

Sociology

Sociologists study social life and human society, from personal relationships to global systems. The insights into human behavior revealed by our work improve lives and contribute to real solutions for complex social problems. While pursuing the graduate program in Sociology students examine all levels of society and all social orders critically from the elements and regular qualities of small groups to complex private and open administrations. Students will know about the political and social bases and qualities of open approaches and their distinctive effects on people, gatherings and social orders. The emphasis is on critical evaluation to provide scientific aptitudes that give experiences of human social associations. This program prepares students for professions in social administration, social work, criminal equity and human resource professional.

English Literature

English has been an integral part of various walks of life in India for centuries. One might even say that it has become inseparable from the essence of contemporary Indian culture. The study of language is a key to attain an understanding the history of any age. The three-year English Literature course, also known as Optional English, offers students an opportunity to understand the literary, cultural and social dynamism of England's varied past, European and Non-European writing and integrates Indian writing in English facilitating a transcendence of linguistic nativism.

The glory of a bygone era is obviously of no use unless it can be utilized to enlighten the present. On the practical side, this course offers numerous employment opportunities in the field of teaching, journalism, publishing, writing, etc. Most importantly, a sound understanding of the language equips the student with communication skills, which is an indispensable part of success in any field in todays competitive world.

Syllabus

Flexible Choice-Based Credit System with Continuous Assessment Grading Pattern (CBCS-CAGP).

 

The college follows the prescribed syllabus of the University of Mysore which gets updated from time to time. In an effort to move towards the complete version of the CBCS-CAGP scheme as emphasised by the UGC and to provide greater autonomy, the University has permitted all the departments to run the programmes under Flexible CBCS-CAGP from 2017-18.

Eligibility

Candidates who have passed in 10+2/Pre University Course/ Equivalent grade, with 40 % aggregate are eligible to apply.
